Advice

Good morning, ladies (especially experienced moms)!

I think that it is about time to have my blog serve a purpose. Being that I have about 12 weeks left as a selfish childless person, I thought I should start thinking about what I will need for the baby.

I need some advice. I am going to throw out a topic and you all please leave me your opinion and why.

Today's topic: baby monitors
brand? features? help?

We hired a big guy named Lenny to sit next to her crib all night and yell at us if she needed something.

Actually, moniters are fancy now...and change yearly. The ones we used for Asha were Fisher-Price...but aren't even made anymore.

I would say any brand/any moniter that transmits sound is good. OR...I can get you Lenny's info.

On a side note...I actually have saved Asha's moniters and I plan to rehide them in her room when she turns 13...just so I can keep up on all the cool slang and hot rap songs.

We got ours at a garage sale and it's a little ghetto. It's still working 4 years later.

Make sure you have 2 receivers. We had one in the kitchen and one in the basement family room. We didn't use them at night. I heard them screaming perfectly during the night especially when I didn't want to!

We did get fairly inexpensive ones. Carried sound was all we needed. We did like the lights to that we could see it make noise, but didn't have to listen to all the static when watching a movie or something.

I would love to shower you with some precious gifts sometime!

Our three children slept all night and never woke from their naps.......MAYBE it was due to the fact you slept upstairs without a monitor:)

Kids have lungs. Never needed a monitor!

as a new mom who is still trying to figure things out herself... we just hooked up our monitors. Fisher Price, and they work great so far. Until we moved, the babies were in the same room with us for naps and sleeping... now we still don't need it at night (we definitely hear them), we use them for naps. Only now at nearly six months are their naps long enough to warrant shutting the door and trying to get something accomplished. On a side note - I recommend a noise maker... helps the babies sleep AND helps mom sleep... since all of a sudden I have fantastic hearing?!?!?!

I'm with Brenda on the 2 receivers and shutting them off at night. Even newborn babies are noisy when they sleep so I always figured when they really needed me the noise would be loud enough to wake me and it was. Sound machine/noise maker idea is great too except that it's one more thing to travel with or have at the grandmas house. A nice soothing CD does the trick too. Now that my babes are big they like their music at home for sleeping but do fine other places without it.

We went cheap too! No need for expensive. Our reciever has to be plugged in all the time, so get one that you can unplug and take with you outside or to another room!

Maybe I'm the helicopter mom of the group, we've used a monitor since day one, all night, every night. Still. We just like to be able to hear what is going on in their room since they seem so far away from us. But, we're paranoid!

I remember on our box it showed a man smiling while he mowed his lawn and had the receiver that vibrates hooked to his belt. I thought maybe that meant mom got some time away from the baby, it hasn't worked that way in our house!
